A woman in Arizona worked in the wilderness and brought her dog along. As they were all alone and there was not much around them, she let her pet off the leash so the pooch could play and roam around. She wasn’t worried that the dog would get lost as the terrain was practically flat.

What she didn’t know was that there was a large canal nearby. She watched her dog from afar as she walked and sniffed around. Then suddenly, the dog disappeared as if the land swallowed the animal. She quickly ran to where the dog was and discovered her pet had fallen into the canal.

Strong current

The dog was struggling against the rushing water, which meant there was no time to look for help. So the dog owner went into the canal to get her pet out. But because her dog was heavy, weighing in at 55-pounds, plus the edges were steep. She couldn’t climb off the water. She got trapped as well.

The strong current started dragging the woman and her pup down the canal, endangering their lives. Fortunately, there was a tree a bit further down from them, and she managed to grab hold of a branch while holding her pet.

As there were no people for miles, no one could hear her scream for help. It was also getting dark when the accident occurred. So the lady and her pooch stayed on the same spot until the next day.

Train conductor

The dog owner hung on to the branch, not knowing if help would ever come. She could see several trains pass by, but they were too noisy to hear her cries for help. But then, after 18 hours of being submerged in the water, she heard people coming to the area. As it turned out, a conductor saw her and called 911.

The responders threw a rope to pull them up. The dog went first, and the woman followed soon after. The pet owner was so exhausted and couldn’t stand up. She could only cry and thank their rescuers as she felt relief envelop her.

The woman was taken to a hospital and stayed for several days to recuperate. She and her dog did not suffer any major health conditions and are expected to recover fully.
