If you are familiar with YouTuber Liam Thompson, then you are also familiar with his dog Max.
In a video that went viral, Liam taught his dog how to play the video game known as Minecraft. He has also made a second video in which he teaches his dog to feed itself.
Liam began by describing how time-consuming it can be to feed his dog every day. That is why he had thought of training Max to get his own meals.
Is this even possible? Well, it looked like Liam accepted the challenge and conducted several training sessions with Max.
The first time Liam tried it, he set up a toy with a string connected to a cabinet’s handle. Liam had to teach Max how to tug on the toy to unlock the cabinet. Liam found the training more difficult than expected, despite it looking simple.
After several unsuccessful tries, Liam adopted a new tactic and changed the location of their training. He chose an easily accessible cabinet. It was easier to open because it was lower. As anticipated, there were some obstacles. Max occasionally opened the wrong cabinet.
To successfully master any trick or task, a dog requires repetition. Fortunately, Liam has a lot of spare time to train the dog. As days passed, substantial progress was achieved.
Liam stocked the cabinet with sweets. It served as an incentive for Max to open the cabinet on command. Occasionally, a command would not be required. In addition, Max sometimes grabbed some candy before Liam could close the cabinet.
After mastering how to unlock the cabinet, Max had to learn how to transport its contents to his dog bed. This was surprisingly the easiest part. Liam didn’t have to train Max for days because he grasped the concept instantly.
The spoken instruction was “basket.” Max would carry the contents of his cupboard to his bed if Liam said “basket.” Max has yet to transport a paper bag with actual treats, and it has to be seen whether he can do so frequently and on his own, but this is evidence that Liam has moved closer to his original objective.
