Gramps, a rescued pooch, has a rare cancer. Saving Grace Animal wants to let the dog live his life to the fullest, even with the dangerous disease. Since Gramps is a rescued dog, the dog never experienced what it is to have a family.

Erin Deems, a volunteer from Alberta Spay and Neuter Task Force, first met Gramps in 2014. During this time, she knew that Gramps was special. Despite this, the dog remained to be a backyard dog and was not given a chance to be adopted by a family.

As a backyard dog, Gramps had to sleep outdoors and never had an experience of living inside a loving home. While Deems wants to do something to help the dog, she has limited resources. What she does is to make sure that the dog is safe, so she regularly checks on Gramps.

In her recent visit to Gramps, Deems noticed that the dog drastically lost weight. Aside from the weight loss, the dog had some swelling in the mouth area. She then took the dog to a local veterinary clinic to be checked.

From there, it was confirmed that the mass found in the dog’s mouth is cancerous. When Deems heard the bad news, she knew she had to do something for the dog.

She then brought the dog to Saving Grace Animal Society, where the dog temporarily lives. In the shelter, the dog is also provided the things he needs like food.

Since Deems knows that Gramps will not have more years to live, she wrote a bucket list for the dog. The list included eating ice cream, devouring a cake, shooting a unique photo, appearing on TV, and going to the parks.

While some of the things listed are impossible, Deems wants what is best for the dog. As of now, the dog already accomplished eating ice cream and devouring a whole cake.

Gramps’ bucket list: animal rescue group gives elderly Alberta dog a grand goodbye

Life hasn’t been easy for Gramps. The senior dog spent most of his life outside, braving the fierce Alberta elements. But Saving Grace Animal Rescue Society is making sure his final days are as comfortable as possible – helping Gramps complete his bucket list.
