The Montez family from Texas had already given up all hope of ever finding their dog Corky. He had been missing for seven years, and there was not a single news about him all that time. So when the Humane Society of North Texas got in touch and said that they found their pet, they were all in disbelief.

Microchip

Corky had a microchip, and thankfully the data was still updated. The shelter staff was able to easily get in touch with his owners.

The family immediately rushed to the shelter to confirm if the dog was really their long-lost pooch. And when they got there, all of their doubts were erased. The dog might have grown up, but they could still recognize him. And amazingly, the dog recognized them as well.

One incredible thing about this story is that when the family went home that day, it wasn’t just Corky that they brought back with them.

One-eyed dog

When Corky was found wandering a busy street, he wasn’t alone. He was walking around with a one-eyed dog, and it seemed that the two were bonded. At the shelter, the two were always together. They refused to be taken away from each other and would create a fuss every time they are pulled apart.

When the Montez family learned about this, they did not hesitate to adopt the injured dog. They named him Captain and brought him home that same day. And they are glad that they did.

New life

The two dogs are extremely happy in their new surroundings. As expected, they do everything together. They take naps together, and Corky would even let Captain eat first while he stands before his best friend. This may have been a habit formed during their life in the streets.

Corky may have been protecting Captain because of his injury.

But that is all in the past. The two lucky dogs now have a caring family that loves them, and they are safe in their new life.
