Dog Rescue Shelter is a non-profit organization dedicated to animal rescue in Mladenovac, Serbia. It is the nation’s largest no-kill animal shelter. The organization saves stray dogs and assists them to be adopted by loving families when they are ready.

Since the organization’s inception, it has helped hundreds of pets find loving homes. Despite their limited means, they ensure that every rescued animal is adequately fed and cared for. They provide the best care, which is likely why some believe it’s best to abandon unwanted dogs at their doorstep.

Several months ago, a vehicle stopped in front of the shelter. When the driver exited the vehicle, he surveyed his surroundings, unlocked the trunk, and retrieved an item from it. He then crossed the street, placed a bucket next to the dumpster, and departed.

The staff of Dog Rescue Shelter believed otherwise, especially when Milan Stojanovic, the lead rescuer, heard the cries of small animals, when he threw away the garbage. He went out in search of the source of the noises. To his surprise, he saw the bucket that had pups in it.

Milan looked around for more, but there were only two. The puppies were so small that he felt they were no older than three weeks. Someone likely separated them from their mother and discarded them as rubbish.

The rescuer moved the siblings inside the bucket. He named them Kai and Kiki. However, because they were too young to stay in the shelter, they were immediately placed in foster care and bottle-fed every three hours.

Milan and the other employees at the Dog Rescue Shelter felt compassion for the puppies. They knew they could not bring their mother dog back, so they vowed to help them live happy lives despite her absence.

Kai and Kiki grew and flourished in their foster home. As they grew older and were prepared for a new beginning, the rescue group began their search for permanent homes for them. Thanks to Dog Rescue Shelter, this sibling pair finally discovered happiness.
