Will you entrust your delicate itty-bitty kittens to a huge dog? For the foster parent, Maddie Fang, the answer is a resounding yes! Maddie knows for sure that her huge dog, Leo, is going to care and protect her tiny foster kittens in a heartbeat.
Fostering kittens
If you go through Maddie’s Instagram account, you might say she’s a crazy cat lady. Maddie likes kittens, and she has fostered hundreds of them until they’re healthy and ready for adoption. And Maddie only knows so well that her dog, Leo, has been very helpful in her foster-caring duties.
Maddie adopted Leo from a rescue when he was just a young puppy. Maddie noticed right away how calm and gentle Leo is. The dog has an innate nurturing personality, and Maddie just can’t help but fall in love with him.
Loving Leo
When Maddie brought a kitten home for the first time, she already knew that Leo would be very gentle. But what she didn’t expect was that Leo would be affectionate towards the baby feline. Leo’s calm disposition towards the kitten encouraged Maddie to bring in more of these tiny kitties that the dog ended up lovingly sharing his space with them.
Maddie seems to think that Leo regards himself as the kittens’ big brother. He likes to keep them in sight, follow them, wait for them, and then shower them with sweet wet kisses. For Maddie, having Leo as a co-caretaker is a great way to condition the kittens should they get adopted into families with pet dogs.
Fostering is a helpful way of giving shelter animals the much-needed care and affection in the home setting. Maddie, who regularly volunteers at a shelter, takes foster animals home quite often. She is particularly drawn to kittens who nurse from the bottle as it gives her immense sense of satisfaction to see them grow and thrive. But Maddie also knew that she wouldn’t get this far without Leo’s help, and for that, she is genuinely grateful.
