Dogs are a great source of comfort. And two particular canines have been helping an extraordinary woman who’s been going through a rather difficult year.

Meghan Markle owns two dogs named Guy (a beagle) and Pula (a black Labrador retriever), who has been a fantastic source of comfort and support on what has been a challenging year 2020 for the actress. In an interview with Hello! magazine, Caroline Yates, the CEO of Markle’s animal welfare patronage called Mayhew, highlighted Markle’s two canine companions’ vital role in her life.

After all, the difficulties that the former Duchess of Sussex has faced the past year were no picnic: from stepping down from her royal role, a huge family move to California, the pandemic, and her unfortunate pregnancy loss. It seemed like she needed all the emotional support she could get. The organization’s CEO said it was nice to share their experiences with Markle and how significant animals are, especially when things are tough.

Granted the very vital role they have in the family, it did not come as a surprise that Guy and Pula were the special guests in Meghan and Harry’s Christmas card for 2020. Front and center, of course, is their one-year-old son, Archie, while they gather in the little prince’s playhouse.

Mayhew released the adorable photo, which Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, took. The couple’s representative said that the original family photo was taken at their home earlier during the holidays. Archie himself handpicked the small Christmas tree, along with the ornaments and other decorations. The representative also said that the tree would be replanted after the holiday season.

Markle’s beloved Guy and Pula also made a little cameo during the video that Meghan shot in August, together with Gloria Steinem, where they discussed the importance of women voting. Steinem even remarked with a laugh that Markle’s dogs wanted to be on camera, who laid by the Duchess’s feet.

And it looks like little Archie got his mommy’s animal-loving gene. A source previously mentioned to PEOPLE that the little prince considers their dogs his best friends who make him laugh and who have been very gentle with him.

Well, it just goes to show that regardless of who you are, the love that dogs have for humans is universal!
