Seeing a cat and dog become best friends isn’t exactly a new thing. We’ve seen plenty of dogs who have unusual relationships with cats despite the two species being supposed to be mortal enemies. Perhaps some dogs are just too friendly, and besides, cats aren’t too bad. They could be incredibly friendly to others sometimes.

However, the relationship between this 2-year-old dachshund and this disabled cat probably takes the cake when it comes to unusual friendships. But not because of the “cat and dog” combination, oh no. It’s due to the level of dedication that they have towards the relationship, especially from the dachshund.

Even the woman who fostered them, Jacqueline Brown, could attest that this duo is indeed one in a million. Jacqueline has been fostering dogs and cats for a very long time. So she has seen a lot of these fur babies, she fosters them separately most of the time, but sometimes they come in as a pair.

Jacqueline fosters the animals at her place of business, the Hollywood Houndz Boutique & Spa in Lake Mary, Florida. This unusual couple was rescued by the Seminole County Animal Services off the end of somebody’s driveway. When Jacqueline took them in, she instantly noticed the dachshund’s unusual behavior.

She named the pup, Idgie, and the cat, Ruth, from the characters of the movie, “Fried Green Tomatoes.” Idgie would always growl at other dogs if they come near them. Whenever they take away Ruth to get worked on, Idgie would become visibly upset and restless inside their cage.

Idgie also shares her new toys with her cat buddy. If that’s not real love, then we don’t know what is. Since Ruth’s legs are paralyzed, Jacqueline and her team fashioned a wheelchair for her. Idgie would pull her best friend behind her so that they could get around. Fortunately for the two, they have been adopted as a pair, and because of that, they can be guaranteed that they can spend the rest of their lives together.
