A funeral home in North Carolina had recently hired a not-so-typical member of their staff, and the internet is loving that move. Although she is only eight weeks old, her employer is confident that she will make a great addition to the team. Her name is Mochi, the adorable Bernese mountain dog.

Tori McKay, Macon Funeral Home’s office administrator and Mochi’s owner, said that for ten years, she has been dreaming of having a pup at the funeral home. So, she talked to Brian Hylton, the funeral director, about having a grief-support dog. Thankfully, Brian was open to Tori’s idea.

On January 14, Macon Funeral Home officially announced Mochi’s arrival through a Facebook post, which has a picture of the sleeping Mochi. The caption says that aside from sleeping, the pup loves people. So, they are encouraging everyone to stop by and meet Mochi because she always wants to make new friends. The post further noted that Mochi’s official job is grief support team member.

On the funeral home’s website, Tori said that she would arrange Mochi’s funeral visitations when the bereaved families request her dog’s presence. The pup will not only work there. Every couple of weeks, she will visit nursing homes at night too.

Tori said that it has always been her choice to have a Bernese mountain dog as a grief therapy dog. She explained that the history of being therapy and support the pup of this breed is excellent. This is because they have a laid-back personality and kind disposition.

According to Tori, the life expectancy of Bernese mountain dogs is usually only six to eight years. So, she wants Mochi’s life to have as much purpose as possible. Tori will send Mochi to Asheville, North Carolina when the pup reaches six months to start her formal training as a therapy dog. For now, Tori is training and socializing Mochi.
