Dog walkers found an abandoned dog in Blyth, Northumberland. She was barely alive when the animal welfare officers picked her up. They contacted Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels or BARK, a registered charity organization that takes in abandoned or stray animals. The dog was so emaciated that the staff from BARK were saddened upon seeing her.

The dog, a Lurcher, was too weak to walk, so they had to carry her to the vet. Everyone thought that she had a terminal disease that would explain her condition. However, she was not fatally ill. She only needed the basics like food, a home, and parasitic treatments.

Her condition was not suitable for the kennels so she was placed in foster care at once. Once she arrived at her foster home, they put her in jumpers to keep her warm because she had no fur left on her body. Her foster family placed her bed beside the fireplace for the extra warmth. Her foster dad slept on the floor beside her for the first three nights to keep her company.

They named her Mrs. Tiggywinkle or Tiggy for short. They had to carefully plan her diet to ensure that she would be able to recover properly. In just less than two weeks, she had gained twenty percent of her weight back.

Her story was posted online and donations for her clothes and care came pouring in. Many people were already interested in adopting her but the BARK manager, Jan Ross, wanted to make sure that she was perfectly healthy before they let her go. They also had strict policies about adoption to ensure that neglect would not happen to Tiggy again.

Investigations were done to search for Tiggy’s previous owners. They wanted to know if she was deliberately neglected or abused. However, the search was fruitless so they never found out about Tiggy’s history.

The staff of BARK decided that Tiggy’s future was more important. During her foster care, they slowly introduced her to other dogs and small children so that her integration into an adoptive family would be an easy process.

Tiggy found a wonderful family. They allowed her to enjoy her favorite activities like spending time at the beach, playing with a tennis ball, and sleeping by the fireplace.

Thanks to the people who rescued her in time, Tiggy was able to get a second chance at life.
